Cambridge Indivisible’s Statement on Andy Harris’ Lies

Cambridge, MD — Today, Michelle Fowle, Founder and Chair of Cambridge Indivisible, issued the following statement:
"Once again, Andy Harris has chosen lies and mockery over leadership. Across Maryland’s First Congressional District—from the Eastern Shore to Harford County—constituents are standing up because they are tired of being ignored. Harris has spent years prioritizing extremist politics over the real needs of the people he was elected to serve.
“Rather than addressing the serious concerns of his district—access to healthcare, environmental protections for the Chesapeake Bay, infrastructure improvements, and economic opportunities—Harris continues to deflect with misinformation. Instead of engaging in honest dialogue, he and his allies resort to name-calling and fabrications.
“The protests in Cambridge were not isolated. Across MD-01, residents are speaking out because they see the harm Harris is causing. He refuses to stand up to an administration that is devastating farmers, slashing vital programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, all to hand out more tax breaks to billionaires. Instead of fighting for the people of Maryland’s First District, he is selling them out at every turn.
“And when does Harris actually meet with his constituents? Not at town halls, not at public forums—only at his high-dollar fundraisers, where billionaires own him. The people he was elected to serve are left to fend for themselves while he lines up with corporate donors and party extremists.
“Andy Harris has failed Maryland’s First District at every level. He refuses to stand up to an administration that is actively harming the very people he represents—farmers, retirees, working families—all so billionaires can get richer. We will call him out every step of the way because our communities deserve better.”
Public engagement is a fundamental part of our democracy. Whether through protests, town halls, or direct advocacy, the people of Maryland’s First District are making it clear: we will not be silenced. Dismissing constituents with lies and insults is not leadership—it’s cowardice. Harris and his allies can try to spin the truth, but the growing opposition to his failed leadership speaks for itself.
